Kent Parkison, Principal, has been a premiere builder in Ouray County for over 30 years. Kent’s building career began by chance when, after college at Southern Illinois University where he majored in forestry, he set out to see the West. He wound up working as a laborer for a large construction company in Aspen. It turned out he had such a natural aptitude as a craftsman, that in a very short time he advanced from laborer to carpenter foreman. He had found his calling & never looked back. Kent met Holly, his wife, (a native of New York State) in Aspen, They moved to Ridgway as newlyweds in 1970 & raised their two children who thrived in the rural community atmosphere. Kent worked briefly for local contractors before starting his own business. He established Old West Builders in 1975, and gained the respect of his clients and the local building departments alike with his high quality craftsmanship and willing nature. Kent has a keen sense of design and an innate ability to translate a client's ideas into a finished product. In addition he spent many years running a cabinet / furniture shop in support of the field operations of Old West Builders. Goal oriented is an accurate way to describe Kent, with perfection being the ultimate goal. Over the years Kent has sat on community boards and held positions in local government to help preserve the mountain community that he loved. He is a passionate family man, outdoorsman and adventurer. For many years he took his family camping, exploring, and fishing along the remote coast of the Sea of Cortez and the Baja Peninsula. It is still a family favorite destination.
Kody Parkison, partner, represents the next generation at Old West Builders. Passion runs in the family, and Kody is no exception. Growing up, Kody developed a love for the outdoors. He spent his summers from junior high through college working for Old West Builders. To his Dad’s pleasure, he showed a natural gift for the various aspects of construction and they worked well together. After graduation from Ridgway High, Kody left for Fort Collins to attend Colorado State University, where he studied business, construction management and computer science. He applied his business studies to positions in Denver area corporations following graduation, but eventually found that his love for the outdoors and his mountain home outweighed the rewards of corporate life. In 2004, he & his wife, Melissa, (a native of Rochester, MN) enthusiastically left city life behind to return to Ridgway and Old West Builders. Kody now shares the responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the business as a partner with Kent.
Kent and Kody together make a dynamic partnership, combining the traditional with state-of-the-art building concepts. Their long-term relationship means that they work fluidly together and are a complement to one another.
